A new multi-year partnership will give Newman Regional Health new ways to help the area’s Spanish-speaking community.
Newman Regional is granting $30,000 over three years to Emporia Spanish Speakers, with a goal of adding resources and “collaborative” outreach programs. Emporia Spanish Speakers Chief Executive Officer LeLan Dains says the new agreement will help further its goals of eliminating culture and language barriers.
Dains says this won’t change current operations much.
Newman Regional Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships Steven Bazan tells KVOE News this announcement follows recent certification of three hospital employees for medical interpretation. The new partnership may well include help with financial aid applications, appointment scheduling and more.
This could also signal a new approach to community partnerships for Newman Regional Health.
Bazan says this partnership is designed to help the hospital minimize health disparities, foster interest in preventive care and make sure residents of all backgrounds areawide get the medical care they need.
Emporia Spanish Speakers was founded in 2017 and offers community engagement activities, bilingual resources, workshops and other activities for local Spanish speakers.
