Better than last year, but still expensive.
The American Farm Bureau Federation has released its annual Thanksgiving turkey dinner cost list. All told, the overall cost is down five percent from last year and down significantly from 2022:
*16-pound turkey is $25.67
*12-ounce cranberry serving is $2.35
*Three pounds of sweet potatoes are $2.93
*Half a pound of celery and half a pound of carrots are 84 cents
*16 ounces of peas are $1.73
*Two 9-inch pie shells are $3.40
*14 ounces of cube stuffing are $4.08
*One dozen dinner rolls are $4.16
*30 ounces of pumpkin pie mix are $4.15
*One gallon of whole milk is $3.21
*Half a pint of whipping cream is $1.81
The classic Thanksgiving meal, averaging $58.08, may be down from last year — and most of the items on the list are down individually, although rolls, cranberries, whipping cream and stuffing are all up. Unfortunately, this year’s feast is almost 20 percent more expensive than it was five years ago. The 2024 meal is also more expensive than at any point in the AFBF survey from 2005-2021.
