Emporia High boys basketball looking to take next step after back-to-back 13+ win seasons

The Emporia High boys basketball team has recorded consecutive seasons of 13 or more wins.

Emporia High will look for its third consecutive 10+ win season this season under head coach Lee Baldwin.

Emporia High lost its two leading scorers from last year’s 13-8 team with Sheldon Stewart graduating and River Peters transferring to Wichita Northwest for his senior season. The Spartans do return two starters in seniors Nolan Jacob and Jash Rios. Also returning are senior Madden Seidl, juniors Rylan Crowell and Chase Harrington, and sophomore Harry Trelc. Key newcomers to make an impact for the Spartans are sophomore Terrick Franklin and senior Kobe Franklin, who transferred in during the offseason.

Baldwin said the offseason has been the best he’s seen in his 12 years as a head coach. Baldwin said practices have gone well and is confident with his team.

Jacob said the offseason was great for the Spartans.

Emporia High will open the season at Liberal on Dec. 6 followed by the Paul Terry Classic with games against Spring Hill (Dec. 10), Wichita Trinity (Dec. 13) and Hayden (Dec. 14). The Pre-Christmas Schedule wraps up with a road trip to Great Bend on Dec. 17. The Centennial League opener is Jan. 7 at home against Hayden. Emporia High also has non-conference games against Hays (Jan. 10) and Wichita Independent (Jan. 31) while also going to El Dorado for the second consecutive year for the Bluestem Classic (Jan. 23-25).
