For 34 years now members of Emporia’s Church of Christ have given up their time on Thanksgiving to feed the needs of others, literally.
The congregation came together for the 32nd annual free Thanksgiving meal where all were welcome and walked away full of turkey and all the fixings. Pastor Neil Taylor says when it comes to the holidays not everyone is fortunate enough to have family to spend time with.
At the Church of Christ, however, he says everyone who steps through their doors is part of their family and they do all they can to make sure they know it.
Pastor Taylor says while the visitors to their church receive a great meal and a sense of fellowship, he believes the real benefit is the sense of service and togetherness felt throughout the entire congregation.
As in years past, once the church’s doors opened for service congregation members were busy from start to finish with several hundred hungry residents passing through.
