Work will be starting soon on the Flint Hills Crossing development…just not as soon as first thought.
Original plans of starting as soon as late this month or early next month. City Engineer Jim Ubert says work now may not start until January, and there are specific reasons why:
If the name Flint Hills Crossing doesn’t ring a bell, the name Quik Trip might. This is the project bringing a large Quik Trip to land just southwest of the Flint Hills Technical College main campus. Ubert says a new roundabout and street will be constructed to connect Graphic Arts Road traffic to the northernmost of two existing roundabouts linking Interstate 35, the Kansas Turnpike and US Highway 50. Speaking of Graphic Arts, Ubert says that street will expand a northbound lane north of the I-35 bridge — but the Quik Trip project won’t affect the 18th and Graphic Arts roundabout.
There are conversations about potential other businesses going in near Quik Trip. Ubert says those would need to go through the city’s planning and zoning process and would likely go north of the Quik Trip once it opens to the public by late summer or early fall 2025.
