Projects in Emporia, Olpe and Osage County are seeking several funding categories for housing projects through the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation.
Kansas Housing says Rebuild Emporia 2024 is requesting $500,000 in Moderate Income Housing funds for new and rental properties. Olpe Lakeside Patio Homes, meanwhile, is requesting $300,000 in Moderate Income Housing and another $180,000 in Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits for new construction. The Osage County MIH Project is requesting $650,000 in Moderate Income Housing and another $672,000 in Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits.
Details about these upcoming projects are currently pending.
Moderate income funds, whether grants or loans, go to cities and counties with populations under 60,000 people. The money helps to develop single-family and multi-family properties for homes and rentals.
Kansas Housing Investor Tax Credits are earmarked for counties with under 75,000 people and go to qualified investors, including builders and/or developers as a way to bolster projects “most likely to provide the greatest benefit to and best meet the needs of the community lacking adequate housing.”
Another option that none of the area projects applied for is Revolving Loan Funding. This revenue stream provides funds for cities, counties, developers and non-profits, helping to develop moderate-income housing — including needed infrastructure.
