Holiday Resort will not be closing its doors at the end of the week as originally expected, however, the closure is still coming.
According to a news release from the city of Emporia and approved by the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services Thursday, Mission Health will act as a temporary manager for the Emporia nursing home for up to 30 days, thus delaying the closure that was expected Friday. According to the release, “Federal and state regulations mandate that residents of adult care homes receive at least 30 days’ notice before being transferred or discharged.”
KDADS Director of Communications Cara Sloan-Ramos says Mission’s status as temporary manager can be extended to 60 days, but that would need approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
This will give families and residents additional time to find new placements and living arrangements, however, it is unclear how this will effect the better than 100 staffers at the facility. According to KDADS the facility’s closure was a result of its no longer qualifying for financial support through the federal Housing and Urban Development agency.
Based in Tampa, Florida, Mission Health offers a range of living arrangement and patient services options in Kansas and four other states — Georgia, Minnesota, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
KVOE has reached out to KDADS and Holiday Resort management for additional comment on the situation.
