The upcoming closure of Tyson Foods has drawn the interest of an international organization.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, says it wants to lease the nearly-330,000-square-foot Tyson complex at Sixth and Prairie. PETA’s plan is to convert the space into an empathy museum and vegan cafe, saying it would be informative while increasing tourism and creating jobs.
Tyson is into a two-step process to end all local operations, with its lab closing by Dec. 20 and the plant by Feb. 14. There are no immediate plans stated for a new resident at either location.
