From one-of-a-kind artwork to delicious cookies and a welcoming atmosphere, the inaugural Emporia Artisans Christmarket Art Sale had it all this past weekend.
The two-day event inside St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church offered a range of unique art pieces from local artisans including paintings, ceramics, fiber art, woodworking, sculptures and more. While this was the first year for the Christmarket in its current form, it has been ongoing for many years previously originally taking place annually at Plumb Place.
Following the closure of Plumb Place, the event moved to the Lyon County History Center and now its new location at St. Andrew’s. While the location has changed over the years, the leadership behind it has not as David Mai has been the lead organizer since its inception.
Mai spoke with KVOE News during the event Saturday and says there was steady traffic throughout which is great for the local artisans taking part as it provides tremendous exposure for them and their works.
In addition to the art market, members of the St. Andrew’s church congregation put on a cookie sale with all proceeds going to support the First United Methodist Church student school supply drive. Susan Mai was leading that effort and says supporting local students is a major focus for their congregation year-round.
Fundraising totals are currently pending.
