It has been a busy time for the Salvation Army of Emporia the past few weeks with several major fundraisers either underway or taking place.
Of course, the annual Red Kettle Campaign is ongoing at this time and surpassed the $10,000 mark this weekend. With a promised $10,000 match and a goal of $50,000 Salvation Army Captain Mylie Hadden says there is still a lot of work ahead, however, they are going to be pushing hard toward the finish line in coming weeks.
Captain Hadden would add that this year they have seen a decline in sponsorships for kettles which has made the fundraising goal a bit more challenging.
The latest special bell-ringing events as part of the Red Kettle Campaign are coming up this week and weekend starting Wednesday evening.
Real Estate Wednesday will be followed by the annual Badges United on Saturday at Bluestem and WalMart and will begin at 8 am.
The upcoming events follow a pair of fundraisers that just wrapped up last week, The KVOE Mitten Tree Drive which concluded Thursday and the Neighborhood Toy Drive which took place Saturday evening. The Mitten Tree Drive brought in more than 700 items for the Salvation Army, SOS and Emporia Spartan Stop, topping the prior year’s total by 100 items and the Neighborhood Toy Drive collected 15 bags of toys and seven bikes for the Salvation Army as well as $200 for SOS.
With the Red Kettle Campaign still ongoing through Christmas, bell ringers are still needed especially during weekdays. If you would like to support the cause and take a bell-ringing shift you can sign up at RegistertoRing.com.
