Construction is evident in the heart of Emporia State University’s campus as ESU continues work on its brand-new Nursing + Student Wellness Center.
The nearly $25 million, roughly 320,000-square-foot complex will provide numerous specialized training options for students and also move Student Wellness Services.
Director of Facility Planning Peter Hauff says there were some soil issues, notably clay and certain rock formations, to contend with as part of the excavation process. Unfortunately, despite the recent progress, this has reset the construction timetable.
Fundraising has gone well, with a combination of state revenues and private grants covering costs so ESU hasn’t had to bond out the project or raise student fees to cover costs.
This also moves Emporia State’s nursing operation from Newman Regional Health’s Cora Miller Hall to campus. Newman Regional Health has not specified how it plans to use the space once the Nursing + Student Wellness Center is occupied.
