While new construction is taking place in the heart of the Emporia State University campus, renovations are quite visible as you pass near the university’s main entrance.
Beach Music Hall has been under repairs for several weeks. Director of Facility Planning Peter Hauff says it’s needed work.
Hauff says the initial plan was to jack up the affected area, but that plan was adjusted because the space was too heavy. Now that the space has been secured and concrete for the 12th Avenue entrance was poured last week, work continues indoors around the stairwell. Interior work will also include painting affected areas. An expanded patio space with furniture will be added later.
Besides the work on Beach Hall and the new construction for the nearly $25 million Nursing + Student Wellness Center, Hauff says there has been a focus on deferred maintenance needs for projects like roofs and fire alarms, thanks to state funds.
