A man initially accused of aggravated indecent liberties with a child in Wabaunsee County has accepted a plea agreement for two counts of child rape.
Manuel Thomas Bailey, age 24, was arrested in July and initially charged with two counts of indecent liberties involving a child who was no more than seven years old at the time of the alleged crimes this past summer. Prosecutors later added alternate counts of child rape to the existing charges and then added two more indecent liberties counts. As part of the plea, Bailey pleaded no contest to child rape involving activities between early May and early July.
Sentencing is Jan. 14. Bailey faces anywhere from over 12 years to over 54 years in prison per count, along with fines of up to $300,000 on each count, if he’s sentenced consecutively instead of concurrently.
