Two groups and a local business have teamed up on a special holiday effort for the second straight year.
Emporia Fire & Iron Station 135, Eclectic Bikes and Catholic Charities are all involved in an effort to get bicycles to people who need them. Fire & Iron spokesman Tony Fuller says this effort fills a holiday niche for people in need.
Club members partnered with Eclectic Bikes by taking donated bikes to the downtown Emporia business to be refurbished. Bikes are handed off to Catholic Charities for distribution to people in need. The regional chapter serves residents in Lyon, Coffey, Osage and Wabaunsee counties.
This year’s effort brought in $350 from the club to Eclectic Bikes — and eight bicycles, six for children and two for adults — after 11 bikes were refurbished last year.
