Olpe and Lebo traded wins in the final Area Game of the Week of 2024 Friday night.
In the girls game, Lebo would survive a second-half comeback attempt by the Lady Eagles to pick up their fifth win of the season 32-29.
The Lady Wolves outscored Olpe through the entirety of the first half to take an 18-8 lead into the locker room. In the second half, the Lady Eagles would come alive and came as close as three points to overtake the lead on multiple occasions but could not overcome the deficit.
Lebo was led in scoring by senior Sage Hadley with 15 points. Fellow senior Siara Crouch ended the night with 12 points all from beyond the arch.
Impressively, Lebo picked up the victory without scoring a single two point basket the entire game. Head Coach Patrick Gardner says that was a new experience for him.
Olpe was led in scoring by junior Lilly Skalsky with 8 points on the night. With the win, Lebo improves to 5-1 while Olpe falls to 4-2.
In the boys game, defensive pressure on the Olpe end helped the Eagles soar past the Wolves 64-39.
The Wolves and Eagles would trade the lead four times in the first quarter before Olpe built a lead they would never relinquish in the second quarter. In the second half, Olpe outscored Lebo 30-19 to close out the win.
Head Coach Chris Schmidt says their defensive efforts throughout the game made all the difference.
Olpe was led in scoring by sophomore Brecken McGuire and senior Dexton Hoelting both with 15 points. Junior Cade Whitmore was also in double figures on the night with 14.
Lebo senior Zach Oswald led all scorers with 21 points and fellow senior Drew Konrade added 13. With the win the Eagles improve to 5-1 on the year while Lebo drops to 2-4.
