While early adjustments are being made for what could be Emporia’s largest housing subdivision in years, progress is being noted for several other housing developments in the city limits.
The Mahtropolis development near the Trusler Sports Complex in northeast Emporia has five homes in the ground with plans to build more than 20 additional homes as part of a phased approach over the next few years.
Separately, initial dirt work has started on the Lockwood Heights subdivision on West Sixth near Stratford. Lockwood Heights is in the process of building out private utilities and drives for access before vertical construction begins. This will bring over 20 new homes to southwest Emporia.
For the Kretsinger development near the David Traylor Zoo, the focus is on easements and adjusting final plans before a final presentation to the Emporia City Commission. No timetable has been announced. If this proceeds to construction, over 50 homes will be built.
These projects are underway as the city begins its early consideration of the Cedarbrook Meadows subdivision — initially over 120 homes near West 18th between the Jones Aquatic Center and Road G. The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission recommended early paperwork to proceed, but only if the lot sizes increased from around 6,000 square feet to 7,200 square feet. Discussions continue internally about how the change in square footage would affect the overall development.
