A longtime tenant in the Flint Hills Mall will be closing its doors next month.
The Buckle announced Monday that it will be closing its Emporia location inside the mall effective January 12. KVOE News has reached out to Buckle management for more insight and is awaiting a return call.
Mall Manager Clarence Frye says there are no plans to fill the space long occupied by the retailer at this time. He also noted there were no other indications from current tenants that they planned to “leave” the mall anytime soon.
Frye also stated “There is a lot of uncertainty right now with the economy” which is impacting new businesses’ willingness to commit to taking up residence in the mall. With that in mind, KVOE News asked Frye if there were concerns that the mall may be at risk of closing its doors in the near future.
Frye responded emphatically “That is not going to happen” adding he has been given a “wide-berth” by ownership to help keep tenants there and offer some “good deals.”
