An Oklahoma man suffered potentially serious injuries after a wreck near Emporia on Monday evening.
The crash happened on the Kansas Turnpike shortly before 6:15 pm at mile marker 126.9 southbound, near the Emporia tollgate and 0.5 miles east of Road G. Troopers say 21-year-old Andrew Michael Jestice of Lindsay, Oklahoma, failed to yield to an emergency vehicle and tried to pass a second vehicle on the right shoulder. Instead of continuing on his way, Jestice went off the right shoulder into a nearby ditch. The motorcycle went through the ditch and stopped after hitting a barbed wire fence.
Jestice was taken to Newman Regional Health for treatment. He was wearing a helmet. The crash log does not indicate whether Jestice was thrown from the motorcycle or whether excessive speed was a factor in the wreck.
