Construction work is resuming for Emporia’s 24th and Prairie waterline project before the week is out.
City Communications Manager Christine Torrens says contract crews are linking the Prairie Street waterline to the existing main under Jones Park Drive — meaning Prairie will be closed to thru traffic at Jones Park.
Also, southbound traffic on Prairie from 24th to 21st will be closed to thru traffic. Drivers will need to detour westbound on 21st.
There is no word on when these adjustments will be cleared.
The project is now around six months old. Weather permitting, construction could still go into fall 2025 as the city builds out over two miles of new pipe and creates over 30 new service lines and other connections.
