Emporia Public Schools administrators are determining whether a widespread data breach impacting one of its external information partners affects district students, families and/or staff.
Director of Communications and Marketing Lyndel Landgren says PowerSchool notified USD 253 about a widespread breach that apparently started Dec. 28. PowerSchool believes the breach is contained, but it affected data for employees, students and family members.
Landgren says USD 253 is “committed, vigilant and serious about protecting the security and privacy of your data.” Landgren also says the data breach violates state law, USD 253 board policy and district expectations for its external vendors.
Landgren says the district has “limited” information and is awaiting additional information from PowerSchool. More information will be released later.
