Kansas House 60th District Representative Mark Schreiber is set to begin his fifth term in office Monday when the 2025 Legislative Session gets underway.
With the start of a new session will come many familiar topics including property taxes, a matter that Schreiber says will likely be at the top of his priority list based on discussions with constituents in recent months.
Another area of note that will likely see discussion throughout the session will be medical marijuana a topic Schreiber believes could see some significant movement before all is said an done.
Other areas of import will be education which Schreiber says is in a good place right now, however, the funding formula for education, in place for the last three years, is set to expire in the next two.
Also on the topic of education, Schreiber reiterated he is not a supporter of vouchers for private schools in Kansas and will not change that stance this year. He expects conversations will unfold on that topic as they have in recent years, however, he is not certain how far those conversations will go noting legislation on the matter has traditionally made it through one of the two chambers but never by a veto-proof majority.
As he stated last year, Schreiber expects little to no conversation on the topic of Medicaid expansion. He says if conversations do take place he expects the majority of attention will be paid to raising reimbursement rates which he says will not provide any assistance to the uninsured residents of Kansas.
Schreiber also noted his support for Medicaid expansion saying all of the states which have passed similar legislation have yet to reverse course and representatives from other states have touted its positive impacts in their respective districts.
