One vehicle was destroyed and four others were damaged as part of a fire incident at an east Emporia business Thursday afternoon.
The incident at Express Tire and Auto, 806 East 12th, was reported just before 3 pm. Express Tire says a vehicle pulled into its parking lot on fire. Emporia Fire Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage says the SUV’s engine and interior were on fire at some point before firefighters got the fire out.
Steinlage says the SUV was destroyed. Before the fire was extinguished, the SUV caused fire damage to two ATVs Express had for sale, as well as a floor truck and a customer vehicle in for repairs. Steinlage says the damage was mainly superficial.
Nobody was hurt. Steinlage says the fire was limited to the vehicles in the main parking lot, which was closed while Emporia Fire handled the incident.
