One upset highlighted Day 1 of the Flint Hills Shootout at White Auditorium on Monday.
The Mission Valley girls, the six-seed, knocked off No. 3-seed Wabaunsee, 32-28. Mission Valley will play No. 2-seed Chase County at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the first semifinal. Chase County defeated Council Grove, 54-33. In the win, Chase County junior Madelyn Wilson surpassed 1,000 career points and scored 23 points in the game. On the top side of the bracket, top-seeded Osage City defeated Cair Paravel, 64-15. Osage City junior Emory Speece led the way with 24 points. Osage City will play Lyndon, the No. 4-seed, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Lyndon defeated West Franklin, 42-18. Allie Kneisler led the way for Lyndon with 17 points. Both championship semifinals will be broadcast on Country 101.7 as well as streaming audio and video at KVOE.com/TV. Wednesday’s action begins with Wabaunsee taking on Council Grove at 3 p.m. with Cair Paravel and West Franklin to follow at 4:30 p.m.
Boys action takes place Tuesday beginning at 3 p.m. with the 4-5 matchup between Osage City and Chase County followed by the 3-6 matchup at 4:30 p.m. between Mission Valley and Cair Paravel. The evening session begins at 6 p.m. with top-seed Council Grove facing Lyndon with Wabaunsee and West Franklin to follow at 7:30 p.m.
In other action on Monday, in a makeup doubleheader, Lebo swept Hartford, winning the girls game, 56-37, and the boys game, 37-27.
