Tuesday’s light snowfall apparently contributed to an injury crash southwest of Emporia.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Sabrina Mitchell of Shawnee was northbound on the Kansas Turnpike when she crashed at mile marker 112.8, near the Flint Hills cattle pens exit and 15 miles southwest of Emporia, shortly before 10:15 am. Troopers say Mitchell lost control of her car and hit the barrier wall before the vehicle hit an embankment and ditch. The car then rolled several times.
Mitchell was wearing her seatbelt, but she was taken by ambulance to Newman Regional Health with suspected serious injuries.
Mitchell’s crash followed a reported injury crash at Turnpike mile marker 123, or four miles southwest of the Emporia tollgate. The driver declined a hospital trip afterward.
