Air temperatures near -10 and wind chills approaching -25 aren’t conducive to mechanical systems, but that’s what area school districts had to contend with Tuesday morning.
Emporia Public Schools had some buses run late due to the conditions. Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder spoke to that on KVOE’s monthly Emporia Showcase on Tuesday, saying the district discussed possible school delays before going forward on the normal schedule.
Anderson-Harder says the district did its best to let parents know about the possible busing delays as the situation unfolded, and at least three routes were late Tuesday morning. Notices to parents went out about 20 minutes before classes and about 20 minutes after some students were already at bus stops.
Several districts had adjustments of their own Tuesday, although not all of them did. USD 251 North Lyon County, USD 330 Mission Valley, USD 386 Madison-Virgil, USD 389 Eureka, USD 390 Hamilton and USD 417 Morris County delayed school and other operations by two hours Tuesday. USD 434 Santa Fe Trail closed Tuesday.
