A new housing addition has begun the early stages of development following action by the Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission Tuesday evening.
As part of their monthly meeting agenda, commissioners recommended approval of a minor plat for the so-called XRS Pros Addition. The addition, set to be located between Carter Street and South Avenue will bring three new homes to the area.
This is the second time commissioners have taken up this particular item after they considered and ultimately recommended denial for the project, which originally sought to construct five homes in the area, back in October. The reason for the denial was due to concerns the proposed lot sizes, 5,700 square feet, were too small to fit the neighborhood.
Developers then decreased the number of homes from five to three and increased the lot sizes to 11,000 square feet.
In other business, commissioners also recommended approval of a request to rezone property at 1402, 1408, 1414, 1407 and 1401 Michelle Circle as well as 912 and 908 Michelle. This was also the second time this matter was considered after commissioners tabled it for further research and consideration during their December monthly meeting.
Both items will go to Emporia City Commissioners for final approval at a later date.
Separately Tuesday, commissioners appointed Raymond Rogers to continue serving as commission chairman. The Emporia-Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission will reconvene for its regular meeting in February.
