Local law enforcement and emergency response departments are getting ready for the Emporia/Lyon County Public Safety Citizens Academy.
Emporia Police officers, Lyon County deputies and Emporia Fire officials will have presentations during the 12-week program beginning in March.
On KVOE’s Morning Show this week, Police Sgt. Dominick Vortherms said the whole goal for the academy is transparency.
Fire Department Training Officer Matt Luder is planning some basic information points for those involved.
Topics will include drone operations, hazardous materials work, criminal investigations, equipment, water rescues and what Vortherms calls “shoot/don’t shoot” scenarios.
Registration is free, but space is limited. The deadline is Feb. 7. Click here for the registration link. The Public Safety Citizens Academy begins March 5.
