A Marysville semi driver will go to prison for over five years after a wreck killed two people near Emporia almost two years ago.
Judge Laura Miser initially sentenced Travis Duane Edwards to a total of 77 months in prison at Edwards’ sentencing Friday, 34 months each for two counts of involuntary manslaughter and nine months for one count of aggravated battery. However, under the state’s “double-double” law, a defendant cannot receive a sentence longer than double the controlling sentence, in this case one of the two manslaughter charges. In Edwards’ case, this caps his sentence at 68 months instead of 77.
Edwards was initially charged shortly after a crash on US Highway 50 near Lyon County Road C in April 2023 where two people were killed and four people, Edwards included, were hurt. Edwards was facing second-degree murder, aggravated battery and interference with law enforcement charges before accepting a plea agreement this past August
