Gains are gains, and the state of Kansas started the calendar year with modest financial gains.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly says total tax collections for January were just under $943 million, above estimates by 1.7 percent and above January 2024 numbers by 1.5 percent.
Individual income tax receipts beat estimates by 5.3 percent and last January by 5.1 percent. Combined retail sales and compensating use tax receipts were also up, above projections by 3.5 percent and ahead of last year by 1.3 percent.
Those numbers were more than enough to offset declines in corporate income tax receipts. Corporate numbers missed projections by over 21 percent and last January by almost 19 percent.
