Two area law enforcement agencies are telling you about scams allegedly involving members of their respective workforces.
The Chase County Sheriff’s Office says it is getting reports of a scam where unspecified people claim to be Sheriff’s Office employees. The Sheriff’s Office reminds people staffers will never call if people have warrants, will never ask for money to resolve warrants and will never call “to tell you how much trouble you are in.” The Sheriff’s Office also issued a reminder about its organizational structure, saying it has Sheriff Jacob Welsh, Undersheriff Aaron Hoffman and deputies — no detectives or lieutenants.
For the Coffey County Sheriff’s Office, there have been calls allegedly from a Sergeant Brian Adams and a Deputy or Officer Ruggs. The Sheriff’s Office does not employ people with those names.
If you believe you have received a scam call, call your local law enforcement agency.
