Residents will have a chance to meet Emporia State University’s recently-announced Grand Master Engraver as part of a special reception Friday.
Lee Griffiths was recently named as Grand Master Engraver by Glendo LLC. Based in Emporia, Glendo designs, produces and sells engraving equipment.
Griffiths began his engraving career in the late 1990s when neighbors and fellow farmers in Idaho asked him to work on knives. He improvised tools before buying some Glendo equipment and then teaching workshops in the company’s training center.
Once his family farm sold in 2007, Griffiths went to full-time and high-level engraving. He has been named Firearms Engraver Guild of America Master Engraver and Colt Master Engraver. He began leading Emporia State’s engraving program last year.
The reception is from 5:30-6:30 pm Friday at King Hall’s first-floor commons area. It is free and open to the public. Guests can tour the engraving studio and look at items in King Hall’s two art galleries. This also overlaps the start of Emporia’s monthly First Friday art activities.
