Storm spotter training schedules are now set across the KVOE listening area.
The National Weather Service’s Topeka forecast office will hold its Lyon County training session at the Emporia State Memorial Union Preston Family Room on March 25.
Other training session dates from the National Weather Service Topeka office:
*March 20: Coffey County. Burlington 4-H Building, 605 South Third
*March 26: Morris County. Courthouse basement, 501 Main Suite 12 in Council Grove
*April 2: Osage County. Lyndon Community Building, 205 West 10th
*April 8: Wabaunsee County. Mission Valley School commons area, 12913 Mission Valley Road
Meetings begin at 7 pm and last 60-90 minutes.
Recently, the National Weather Service Wichita office announced dates for its coverage area, including Chase and Greenwood counties:
*March 3: Greenwood County. Eureka High School auditorium
*March 27: Chase County. Swope Park Community Center in Cottonwood Falls
These presentations begin at 6:30 pm.
Spotter training sessions provide basic lessons about storm structure, storm features, severe weather safety in several different settings and reporting procedures.
KVOE will have live on-air and online updates whenever severe weather threatens or is underway areawide, with social media alerts through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. As has been the case for years, our coverage will be enhanced with information from the volunteer KVOE Storm Team spotter network.
