The Kansas Senate has voted in favor of a significant shift in property tax policy.
Voting 28-12 in favor Thursday, the Senate passed a constitutional amendment designed to cap the growth of taxable value for real property or residential mobile home personal property at 3 percent per year. Senate President Ty Masterson says the amendment allows for “reasonable growth” in property tax valuations, and it mirrors the state’s revenue-neutral policy where local governments must vote to raise more funds than the 3-percent limit would allow.
17th District Senator Mike Argabright of Olpe voted for the bill.
A vote from the Kansas House is pending.
