The United Way of the Flint Hills has a new Pathways to a Healthy Kansas Coordinator.
Deon Morrow comes over to the United Way after time with Flint Hills Technical College. On KVOE’s Talk of Emporia this week, he said it’s a role he’s excited to fill.
Healthier Lyon County was named as a United Way of the Flint Hills Community Partner last fall. Healthier Lyon County was already successful in securing Pathways for a Healthy Kansas grant funding and working with the city of Emporia, Lyon County, the city of Admire and other partners on improvement projects before being named a partner for the third round of Pathways grant funding earlier this year.
Morrow’s work involves collaborating with numerous community partners, including governments, local non-profits and healthcare coalitions, to develop healthier environments in several settings — specifically, reducing tobacco use, promoting healthy eating habits and increasing physical activities.
An Emporia native, Morrow graduated with three degrees from Oklahoma State University while being involved with football and track. Morrow is also the driving force behind House of Morrow, an Emporia Community Foundation program dedicated to enhancing art and literacy options for area youths.
