For the second straight year, Bloom House Youth Services and SOS Inc. joined forces this weekend to put on an event promoting self-love, healthy relationships and positivity.
The two organizations held the second annual Show Your Self Some Love event at Gravel City Roasters Saturday. The event came just a week before Valentine’s Day and as part of activities in recognition of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, February.
SOS Inc. Hannah Crowl says the event brings with it a positive and safe atmosphere where staff can interact with teens and individuals they may not have met before. She says that’s important down the road as building those relationships means teens will know there are people they can turn to and trust if they ever find themselves in a dangerous situation such as an unhealthy or abusive relationship.
Bloom House Director of Services Carolee Conway says that while SOS and Bloom House may provide different services, they do serve many of the same populations making the event a perfect match.
During the event, teens and passersby had the opportunity to create valentines either for their special someone or just themselves. Crowl and Conway agreed it is important to not only show love to others but also one’s self as true love has to start from within.
