Facility matters and education training items will be among the main discussion points for the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education’s meeting this week.
For education training, board members will discuss the Capturing Kids’ Hearts process for the 2025-26 academic year, as well as a nearly $125,000 investment. The two main focal points for Capturing Kids’ Hearts are building relationships and “developing self-managing students.” The district began its partnership with Capturing Kids’ Hearts at Emporia Middle School and went districtwide in August 2023, with Village Elementary listed as a National Showcase School every year since 2018.
The board also gets a presentation on “How the Brain Shapes Behavior” from district administrators Judy Stanley, Erica Mickelson and Jennifer Casey.
On facilities, board members will officially receive an offer from the Rural Redevelopment Group LLC to purchase the former Kansas Avenue school building, 315 South Market, for $1 to turn the space into moderate-income housing. The board also gets the latest information on settling at the district’s administrative offices at Mary Herbert Education Center.
