If you recently picked up a can of tuna at Emporia’s Walmart location you may want to dispose of it.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Tri-Union Seafoods is “voluntarily recalling” select tuna brands sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B and Trader Joe’s brand names. The recall is affecting businesses such as Costco, Kroger and Walmart and is due to a reported packaging error that could lead to cases of botulism.
Botulism is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can be potentially fatal as toxins can attack the body’s nervous system affecting breathing, causing muscle paralysis and in some cases death. A full list of recalled brands is available online at FDA.gov.
