This year’s Bonner and Bonner Diversity Lecture at Emporia State University will feature two speakers with one message.
AJ Locashio and Sarah Phelps will discuss the advocate lifestyle, as well as the community’s role in continuing engagement and activism. Part of that conversation will include topics like the challenging social and economic climate, advocate burnout, tools and resources.
Locashio is the founder and executive director of Umbrella US, a national network of support services for neurodivergent and disabled people. Phelps is a longtime advocate for the LGBTQ, BIPOC or Black, Indigenous and People of Color and disabled residents.
The Bonner and Bonner Lecture is at 7 pm Thursday at the Memorial Union Preston Family Room. It is free and open to the public with no tickets needed to attend. There will be a reception in the Alumni Lounge after the lecture.
The Bonner and Bonner series honors Drs Thomas and Mary Bonner, Emporia State’s first two African American faculty members.
