The Emporia High bowling teams punched their tickets to state on Tuesday at Flint Hills Lanes.
The Spartans finished second with a series of 3,470, finished 40 behind regional champion Andover Central. Shawnee Heights was the third and final team to qualify for state. Morgan Liggett led the way for Emporia High with a third place finish with a 694 series. Colton Swift finished 11th with a series of 641.
The Lady Spartans finished second with a series of 2,707, finishing behind regional champion Seaman who had a 3,221 series. Shawnee Heights was the final team qualifier taking third.Emporia High had three medalists with Taylor McKay leading the way with a 568 series and a fourth place finish. McKay said it’s exciting for the Lady Spartans to be going to state as a team.
Other medalists for Emporia High are: Brynn Heffron who finished 14th with a 514. Amelia Lowery finished 15th with a 495 and Emily Major finished 19th with a 476. Kayllee Gilliland and Sophia Hill round out the team for state.
The Class 5A State Bowling Championships will be held March 5 at Northrock Lanes in Wichita.
