Flu numbers? Up. COVID and RSV? Down.
That was the basic update from Lyon County Health Office Dr Ladun Oyenuga on KVOE’s Morning Show on Wednesday. Dr Oyenuga says a significant concern with the increased flu traffic, notably influenza A, is the number of high fevers that aren’t all that responsive to typical over-the-counter medications like Tylenol or ibuprofen.
Oyenuga also says flu cases are across all demographics now, and she says there have been some related cases of “bacterial conversion” of flu to pneumonia that are causing concerns.
Dr Oyenuga says it is not to late to get vaccinated against flu or COVID.
Separately, Dr Oyenuga says there have been no local cases of tuberculosis or measles. Tuberculosis has been an issue in the Kansas City metro area the past few weeks, while there is an ongoing measles oubreak in Texas.
