As a child progresses throughout their life, it is important for parents to be as informed as possible as to all of the resources available to help their children, and themselves, along that journey.
Enter the annual Emporia Community Baby Shower, the latest installment of which was held Monday afternoon inside of the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson Building. This year the event had better than 20 different organizations and agencies on hand providing input and information to parents of all backgrounds whether they be traditional parents, single parents or adoptive.
Among those agencies was Crosswinds Counseling and Wellness, which has three prenatal mental health specialists on staff to assist parents, especially mothers, both before and after the birth process, according to Development Manager Jacque Wellnitz.
Also on hand was Lyon County WIC (Women, Infants and Children) represented by coordinator Diana Moore who says not only is the baby shower a great opportunity to get face-to-face time with new and expecting parents, it is also a great time for all of the representatives of the various child centered agencies to network and improve their relationships.
More than 100 parents were signed up to attend this year’s event, which, in addition to providing parents an opportunity to speak with local agencies and pick up needed information, also provided all attendees with a free Pack-N-Play courtesy of the Wade Barrett Memorial Fund.
