Residents in and near Madison will notice an increase in water rates next month.
The city of Madison says base rates are going from $15 a month to $25 per 1,000 gallons of use. There will also be an additional fee of $1.62 per 1,000 gallons after the first 1,000 gallons of water are used. On top of that, there will be a new monthly charge of $5 for a water capital improvement fund.
The city says the rate increases are directly connected to ongoing cost increases to treat and purify drinking water.
The new rate schedule officially went into effect Saturday. Residents will actually see the changes with the April bill.
