Two downtown Emporia businesses will receive the first-ever Turnbull Facade grants.
Emporia Main Street has announced Toso Family Eyecare at 827 Commercial and Resource Center for Independent Living at 624 Commercial were the first to receive funding through this program. Both get $5,000 each in reimbursable funds.
Both business are into extensive construction projects, with RCIL into a major rehabilitation project to ensure structural soundness and Toso Family Eyecare in the middle of a remodel and expansion effort.
Main Street Director Casey Woods says 14 businesses applied. Facades must adhere to Emporia’s downtown design guidelines and historic standards. Work now must be finished by early March 2026.
The program is named after the late Mike Turnbull, a longtime Emporia businessman, philanthropist and Main Street advocate.
