The Emporia State men’s basketball season ended in the first round of the MIAA Tournament at Municipal Auditorium on Wednesday. The No. 8 seed Central Oklahoma hit 11 of 21 threes while the No. 9 seed Hornets were just 10-for-33 from outside in a 73-60 loss to the Bronchos. The Hornets led at 2-0 and that was their only edge of the game. The Bronze & Blue went on a 12-0 run over the final five and a half minutes of the first half and a 20-3 run over the final eight and a half minutes of the period. The Hornets trimmed the deficit as low as 13 but couldn’t get any closer. Head coach Tom Billeter said the Hornets just didn’t make shots in the game.
Chris Harris was honest and said the team felt some nerves being in Kansas City for the first time.
Four Hornets scored in double figures led by 13 points from Karyiek Dixon. Israel Hart led all scorers with 27 for the ‘Chos. ESU ends the season 11-18.
