The Emporia State women’s basketball team fell to Central Missouri 70-59 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City Wednesday. The No. 10 seed Lady Hornets were close with the No. 7 seed Jennies early before an 18-3 run including 14-straight points for UCM put them in front 13 with eight to go in the first half. ESU cut it to six on a 9-2 run, but the Jennies answered with an 8-2 run to lead 35-24 at the break. The Lady Hornets held UCM to 4-for-15 shooting in the third to slash the deficit to 47-41 at the end of the third but could never draw even in the fourth. Head coach Brian Ostermann said the team had a great mental approach to the game.

The Lady Hornets were led by Gracie Gilpin with 17 points on 5 of 8 shooting from outside the arc. Katie Horyna scored 12 points with eight rebounds and seven assists in her final game as a Lady Hornet. ESU wraps up the season 10-19.
