The Kansas Department of Corrections says Devon Stutesman was serving out a 122-month sentence at Hutchinson Correctional Facility when he was found unresponsive in his cell Saturday. The Kansas Department of Corrections says staff began life-saving measures immediately, with efforts continuing after emergency responders got to the facility. Stutesman was taken to an unspecified hospital and pronounced dead Monday.
An independent autopsy will be performed. As is normal whenever somebody dies in Department of Corrections, Stutesman’s death is under investigation through KDOC and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Stutesman was convicted in 2019 for distributing heroin and attempting to traffic firearms into a correctional facility.
