Two area teams saw their seasons end in their respective classification’s state tournaments on Thursday.
In Class 2A in Manhattan, the Chase County girls fell to Doniphan West, 60-44. Chase County led 2-0 but didn’t have a lead after that. The Mustangs led 22-11 at the end of the first quarter and led 26-13 in the second quarter before Madelyn Wilson with on an 8-0 run to pull within five, 26-21, but Doniphan West responded with an 8-2 run to lead 34-23 at halftime. Doniphan West outscored the Bulldogs, 26-21 in the second half. Wilson led Chase County with a double-double of 29 points and 12 rebounds. Chase County coach Clayton Happy said it was tough to have every answer with Doniphan West responding right back.
Chase County ends the season with a 20-4 record.
In Class 1A-Division II in Colby, the Lebo boys had their season end in a 60-40 loss to Dighton. Lebo led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter but Dighton used an 18-3 second quarter to lead 31-22 at halftime and never looked back. Dighton outscored the Wolves, 26-18 in the second half. Zach Oswald led Lebo with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Lebo coach Dennis Becker said it was a tough loss.
Lebo’s season ends at 13-10.
