The Emporia State baseball team nipped Rogers State on a blustery day at the Truman Sports Complex 14-13 to open a three-game series on Friday. Emporia State did most of their damage in a massive eight run fourth inning to take a commanding 13-4 lead at the time. RSU outscored E-State 9-1 the rest of the way, but the Hornets got a four-out save from Ian Lanik (4) to preserve the win. Head coach Brad Hill loved his team’s offensive approach.
Peyton Lewis led the way offensively going 5-for-6 with a team high four runs while driving in three and notching his fourth home run of the year despite the blowing dust throughout the game as winds blew out to left center field gusting over 50 miles per hour. He talked about dealing with the dusty breeze.
Cooper Schwindt went 2-for-4 with a Hornet-high four RBI’s while Sammy Padilla also homered for the Hornets. ESU (9-9, 2-5 MIAA) won their fourth straight game and scored double-digit runs for the third time in four games. They’ll look to pick up their first conference series win of the season Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
