Retired local businessman Kurt Steinkuhler is throwing his hat into the race for Emporia City Commission.
Steinkuhler filed for a seat on the commission Tuesday saying he wants to serve as a voice for the citizens of Emporia if elected. Steinkuhler, an Emporia native, was the Vice-President and Manager of George Groh & Sons Roofing from 1986 up until 2017 when the company was sold to Wray Roofing.
Steinkuhler stayed with the company as a branch manager up until his retirement last year and since that time he has been serving as a consultant for the company. Steinkuhler tells KVOE News that his retirement has freed up his schedule to allow him ample time to serve if elected adding that he has a vested interest in the community having lived here his whole life.
If chosen to serve, Steinkuhler says he already has a pair of major priorities on his mind.
Steinkuhler is the second individual to file for election to the city commission following Monica Duncan who filed Monday.
As has been reported in recent weeks, three positions on the commission are up for election. They include the seats currently occupied by incumbents Jamie Sauder, Tyler Curtis and Susan Brinkman with Brinkman announcing earlier this month that she will not be seeking a third term in office.
Sauder and Curtis have yet to announce their intentions as it pertains to re-election.
