In a recent interview with KVOE News, just a few days after announcing her candidacy for Emporia City Commission, hopeful Monica Duncan made very clear her intentions if elected to a seat on the commission.
Duncan says her measure of success will be noticeable economic, business and population growth for the city which she says will start with hiring the right experts and individuals to key positions.
Duncan is no stranger to city board appointments having previously served as a member Vice-Chair of the Emporia/Lyon County Metropolitan Area Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals. She previously worked for the Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative and is currently a general manager for Emporia-based collections agency CBCS Collections LLC.
Duncan believes her time with the co-op and her role on the commission have provided her with important skills and knowledge she believes would serve her well if elected later this year.
Duncan is one of two individuals currently on the ballot as also filing for election recently was retired Emporia Businessman Kurt Steinkuhler. Both Duncan and Steinkuhler will look to fill one of the three commission seats up for election this year currently occupied by Jamie Sauder, Tyler Curtis and Susan Brinkman.
Brinkman has already announced she will not be seeking a third term in office this year while Sauder and Curtis have yet to announce their intentions. The candidate filing and withdrawal deadline is at noon June 2 with the primary election, if needed, scheduled for August 5 and the general election slotted for November 4.
